Agritourism is the use of a farm as a visitor destination for revenue beyond its agricultural output. Examples: pumpkin patches with hayrides, lavender-farm open houses, farm-stay overnight rentals, corn mazes, vineyard tours, on-farm dinners, wedding venues.
For small farms in accessible locations, agritourism often outproduces agriculture itself on a per-acre basis. The trade-offs: liability insurance, seasonal staff management, zoning and permitting (which vary by state and often county), and the cultural shift from farm operator to hospitality operator.
